As in 2018, in 2019 the doors open each night from 7.00pm.
Enjoy locally made wine or beer, and a slice of fabulous Italian cake or focaccia, listen to live music and chat with friends before heading into the movie screening at 7.30pm.

About Us

The Carterton Film Society is a registered charity and member of the New Zealand Federation of Film Societies. The Federation has been screening films throughout NZ for more than 60 years. There are film societies in Dunedin, Canterbury, Nelson, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton and Auckland.

Film societies specialise in screening quality films from around the world. These include documentaries, features, short films, classics, director retrospectives and national cinema seasons.

Carterton Film Society runs Sunset Cinema on the first Friday of each month, at the Carterton Events Centre. Our doors open at 7pm – and you can purchase locally made wine orbeer, and a slice of fabulous Italian cake or focaccia, while listening to some live music. Our film screens from 7.30pm.

 Carterton Film Society membership is open to everyone.  We operate an annual membership because we have non-commercial screening rights, and must screen to members only.  Your annual subscription contributes to venue hire, programming services and administration costs.

 Like all film societies, Carterton Film Society is run by volunteers. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer please contact us either online or have a chat with any of the team at the Sunset Cinema screening nights. We’re always keen to hear from people who want to help out with publicity, ushering, film screening etc. Our AGM is in November and a committee of four is elected for the next year.
